A story from the world below the surface
In recent years, scientists have discovered six hidden cave systems inhabited by a mysterious and fantastic creature – the cave Avatar (Avatar cavernosus). This 50-centimeter intriguing animal lives in crystal-clear, dark water with a balanced temperature. It forms numerous colonies and plays an important ecological role as a cave sanitation worker.
But when it was discovered that its muscles contain substances with a potential rejuvenating effect on human skin, it became a hunting target. The pharmaceutical industry became seriously interested in it – and with it came a moment of high demand and a wave of profiteering.
What is the game about?
Players become owners of small seeker companies that have received a license to hunt Avatar species after a previous collapse of the Sea Cave Wolves. Their goal is to manage their resources as efficiently as possible, plan and design expeditions to the caves using special bathyscaphes (J-BUG 01) and at the same time… not to forget about responsibility towards nature.
Will you risk profit at all costs? Or will you learn how to find a balance between business and biodiversity protection?
What does the simulation game develop?
- Financial literacy – making decisions about investments, budgets and strategies
- Environmental thinking – players see how their decisions affect the Avatar population and the quality of the cave environment
- Critical thinking and teamwork – discussing, planning and making decisions in groups.
What will you need?
- 1 computer (for the teacher – game manager)
- 1 mobile phone (or an equivalent technological device) for each group of students
- cave plan and game manual
- bathyscaphes fleet (game pieces)
- 2 dices
- Minimum 6 students (from 10 years old) + 1 Teacher
Bonus: Awareness of limits
During the game, students experience the consequences of their actions – with overhunting, the Avatar population decreases, the water warms up in the caves, the cave ecosystem collapses… but even timely fair decisions can protect the species and bring long-term success.
